Left Liverpool on a ship named "Golden Dream" on 11 February 1863. Arrived in Moreton Bay on 28 May 1863. On it's way it docked at Queenstown (now called Cobb or Cork Harbour) in Ireland. There were 671 adults on board at the time of docking. Thomas was aged 1 at the time.

The family then moved to Townsville and he had an unfortunate accident at the Ross river Meat Works. His leg was amputated after the accident.

The family moved back to Brisbane and he obtained employement on the wharves working for James Campbell.

From 1922 until the time of his death in 1925 he resided at 21 Oxford Street, Thompson Estate. He was buried on 8 July 1925 in Brisbane at Toowong Cemetary. In same grave as son Thomas Norman Pilkington. Portion 11, Section 11, Grave Number 11
