He served in Egypt and in Europe. He received gunshot wounds to his leg on 8 August 1917 in France. He was transferred to Ward 2, 2nd Canadian General Hospital, Le Treport, France, where his leg was amputated. He died of shock after the amputation at 11:15pm on 27 August 1917. He is burried at Mont Huon Military Cemetery Le Treport in Plot 3, Row M, Grave 9A. The cross on his grave reads "Rock of Ages, cleft for me" as requested by his father. (Source: NAA website).

Before enlisting in the AIF he served several years in the machine gun section in the Noriton (??) Reg. (Not sure if that word is Noriton ... is hard to read).
Connected with Daniel Tudor and Percy Pilkington - Cousins.
His uncle was Thomas Pilkington who lived at Cambridge Street, West End, South Brisbane.

Known as "Ollie".

He regularly sent postcards home while serving his country. Mainly to his younger sister Alice who he affectionately called "Puddie" or "Pud".
