In 1851 he resided at 38 Colne Lane, Colne, Lancashire with his wife Margaret and his son William Pickles Hartley. (Lived next door to his mother, Christiana Hartley and his brother, Richard William Hartley - who were at number 39) - according to the census in 1851.

He was a Primitive Methodist Preacher and a class leader. A good, kind, sympathetic gentleman and class leader whose nature it was to help people in trouble. In his later years he assisted in his son's business. He was the medium of communication between the work people and the Chief.

Elizabeth is the 2nd wife and widow of John Hartley. He re-married after his first wife died. (Info courtesy of Gordon Hartley).
