Occupation in Glasgow, Scotland: Blacksmith

He started to lose his eyesight and his doctor advised him to go on a long boat trip, so he and his wife, along with the youngest members of his family moved to Australia - where his eyesight improved.

Duncan and Mary sailed to Australia on the ship "Devon" which arrived on 5 February 1879.

The ships log shows:
Ref. P179 IMM 116, 425, No 3 film. 1879/1882

Duncan McInnes - Age 47
Mary McInnes - Age 46
Janet McInnes - Age 12
Helen McInnes - Age 11
Jane McInnes - Age 5

Separately listed below the family, was a William McInnes aged 18 which suggested he was not one of their children, but perhaps a relative. It is rumoured that William later went to South Africa to find his fortune. We do not know if there was any contact thereafter and have no more information on him. (Source: Ron Pilkington)

The McInnes family lived in Kent Street, Fortitude Valley and later built a house in Heal Street. From 1886 - 1912 Duncan resided at 90 Heal Street, New Farm, Qld and became a lay preacher in the Prespetriean Church in New Farm, Brisbane, Qld. After a falling out he became a lay preacher at the Methodist Church on the corner of Malt and Brunswick Street, New Farm. (Which is now a potters).

He died in Brisbane, Queensland.
