Was reported as a Prisoner of War on 12 October 1917 (but must have been released as he was granted leave to the UK on 2 Feb 1918..

1610 Corporal. P Pilkington,47th Battallion, Australin Imperial Force died of gun shot wounds that he received on 27 March 1918 in both legs, left thigh and left forearm. He died at 11:30am on 14 April 1918 (in WW1) at the age of 25 (at 8th Stationary Hospital B.E.F).

He was burried the following day in Grave Number 2842, Pas de Calais, France. Wimereux Communal Cemetary. The grave is officially registered as Plot 10, Row D, Grave 2A.

He was twice wounded in the war. He recovered after hospitalisation the first time he was wounded (as postcards sent home to Jessie reveal), but died after the second wounding. The bullet (about 1" long) which wounded Percival was recovered, mounted and sent back to Jessie Pilkington which Valma currently holds. (Source: Ron Pilkington)
